Frequently asked questions
Is this prose style linter free?
Yes. The BlowFix Prose Style Linter is completely free, with no account, no signup, and no usage limit.
What style issues does it check?
The linter checks for passive voice, wordy phrases, clichés, weasel words, hedging language, redundancies, overused adverbs, long sentences, double spaces, and straight quotes.
Is my text safe?
Yes. Your text is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere. The tool does not use cookies, analytics, or localStorage.
Does the tool work offline?
Yes. Because the tool is built entirely with vanilla JavaScript, it works completely offline after the page loads.
Can I choose which checks to run?
Yes. Each of the ten rule categories can be toggled on or off before you press Lint style.
How does passive voice detection work?
The linter looks for forms of the verb to be followed by a past participle, such as was analyzed or is being considered. It is a heuristic, so it may flag some false positives; treat each flag as a prompt to review the sentence.
